7-1 – Sept 5

Welcome to the computer lab. Here are your instructions.

  1. Open up Google Chrome (not Internet Explorer or Firefox).
  2. Type in the address bar: and enter in your username and newly-given password
  3. Click on Shared With Me folder and click on 7 1/2 and then click the button on the top called “Add to my drive”.
  4. Click on My Drive and then right-click on the 7 1/2 folder and change the colour.
  5. Click on the grey square in the top right corner (composed on 9 smaller squares) and click on Mail and send me an email.
  6. Click on and click on your inbox. Send me an email.
  7. Bookmark my blog!

7 1/2 – Sept 4

Today, we read the article: Crash, Burn, Achieve – why kids need to fail

The article is a challenging read, but we broke it down into it’s core messages

  1. Grit = Resistance, persistence, perseverance, stick-to-itiveness, and passion. It’s that ability to deal with setbacks, and the most important factor for future success.

    • When faced with failure, there are three main ways to deal with it.
      1. QUIT: So there are kids who, when they fail, just decide, “Oh, I don’t really care about it. I’m losing too much.”
      2. GET DOWN:  Those who beat themselves up about it.
      3. GRIT: But a third group, is made up of kids who take their failures very seriously but divorce themselves from it a little bit; they say, “Okay, let me actually analyze the mistakes that I made: What can I do differently next time? ”
  1. If you want to develop kids’ self-esteem, the best way to do it is to praise everything they do and make excuses for their failures. But if you want to develop their character, you do almost the opposite: You let them fail and don’t hide their failures from them or from anybody else – not to make them feel lousy about themselves, but to give them the tools to succeed next time.

Welcome 7-1/7-2!

Welcome to portable 5, 7-1/7-2! Since that’s a bit of a mouthful to say, I will henceforth call you “G-Unit,” not to be confused with the hip hop group.

If you are reading this with your parent, then you have completed your first homework with me. Thank you and congratulations!

If you are up for the challenge, you can attempt to log-in to your  Google Drive account. Here’s how:

  1. Go to
  2. Use your school log-in
    • Your username is the 1st four letters of your last name, and your first initial, and the last four digits of your student number (this will be the same user name from last year)
      • Username: gaudt####
    • Your password is either abc123 or whatever it was last year.
  3. If you are not successful, don’t stress! We will do this as a class at school. If you could login, try creating a folder called “English”.

Don’t forget, your schedule, and mine,  are under the Schedule tab at the top.
