I have had a very relaxing holiday with my family. I miss you all! We have been skating, tobogganing, playing lots of games and watching movies. I have been into the new school, a little, and we now have a SMART Board and curtains! The library has some books now too. I am sure you are excited to see what it feels like to learn in your new environment. A few more days! Happy New Year.
So, we have discussed the 6 learning skills (Responsibility, Organization, Independent work, Collaboration, Initiative and Self-Regulation) and you have read your Progress Reports and your parents have a had the chance to hear all of the great things you are up to!! I want you to think of a VERY SPECIFIC goal you would like to work on before first term reports come home. Perhaps you want to improve your written responses to reading, or show more of your work in math using pictures and numbers. Maybe Grammar is your focus? Whatever it is, tell us:
1) What your goal is.
2) The steps you will take to reach that goal.

Hi friends! It has been a while since I have posted a blog. Sorry about that. With the website crashing I have put all of my effort into getting that up and running- still no luck.
What do you think about all letters to Millen Woods families going home via email?

Our assignment in Science class will be to design and build a bridge using materials supplied by the SAW LUMBER COMPANY (aka Mrs. Webber!) The bridge will be judged for the quality of building plans and the strength of the bridge. Neatness is also considered. To complete this task you will be put into groups and assigned a role. Here is your chance to explain which role you feel you are best suited for you and WHY. Although I can not guarantee you will get your first choice, I would really like your input. The roles and some of the duties are:
Project Director (keeps schedule, daily journal, approves building plans, cleans up and stores bridge, keeps company records)
Architect (design bridge and draws plans, shows others how to construct bridge, keeps inventory, makes sure bridge follows plan and rules, order supplies)
Carpenter (builds bridge according to architect’s plans, speaks with architect, supervises company members)
Transportation Chief (helps carpenter build bridge, delivers cheques, picks up supplies from warehouse)
Accountant (writes cheques that go with order forms, keeps a balance, meets with auditor, helps carpenter build bridge)
Have your say…be convincing!

So many of you have asked if you can bring your iPod to school. Most of you suggested that you would use it to listen to music. How could this help you learn? Can you use an iPod for learning in any other ways? GIVE FULL sentences and details in your blog comment so we have a true understanding of your thoughts.
I wonder how are you feeling about starting Grade 5? What are your goals/worries? Share your thoughts with your new classmates so we can get to know you better!
